The question

Each writer gets a question.

One at a time, about Sam. They answer in their own words, or write without one.

Who they are to you
  1. Something about Sam that a child is lucky to get.
  2. A thing Sam did for you that a good parent does.
  3. What you most hope the baby picks up from Sam.
  4. Something you have seen Sam be patient about.
  5. A small offer of help you mean to keep.
  6. Something nobody told you about babies that you wish they had.
  7. Your guess at the day, and why.
  8. Your guess at the weight, and whether you are ever right about these.
  1. The moment you knew you had a proper friend in Sam.
  2. Something Sam did that only a friend would.
  3. A thing you still laugh about together.
  4. The time Sam turned up when it mattered.
  5. Something Sam knew about you before you said it.
  1. Something Sam did for the family that went unsaid.
  2. A habit of Sam's that you have caught yourself copying.
  3. A memory of Sam from when you were younger.
  4. Something Sam put up with from you.
  5. Something Sam taught you, mostly by example.
  1. A small thing Sam did that you noticed and never mentioned.
  2. The moment you knew.
  3. Something Sam did this year that made things easier for you.
  4. A thing about Sam you would not change.
  5. Something Sam carried that was yours to carry.
  1. The thing you go to Sam for.
  2. Something you picked up from working beside Sam.
  3. A bad day at work that Sam turned round.
  4. Something a new starter should be told about Sam.
  5. Something Sam did that made the job feel worth doing.

Or write without one.

Christening card messages

Pick your group, use the baby's name, and sign.

From friends

  • Congratulations. What a beautiful reason to get everyone in the same room.

  • Wishing the baby a wonderful life, and wishing you both some sleep.

  • So glad to celebrate this day with you. The baby is perfect.

From family

  • Congratulations on the christening. We are so proud of all three of you.

  • Welcome to the family properly. A day we will not forget.

  • What a day for all of us. Much love to the baby and to you both.

  • Congratulations. This family just got a little louder and a lot lovelier.

Short

  • Congratulations on the christening.

  • A lovely day for a lovely baby.

  • Much love to you all today.

  • So happy to be part of this.

What to leave out

Don't guess at the family's faith. Say you are glad to be there, use the baby's name, and leave the rest alone.

They have heard how quickly babies grow up approximately eight times today. Skip it.

A message addressed directly to the baby, as though they will read it back one day, adds words without adding warmth. Write to the parents.

One card from everyone

Friends, family, godparents. One link, and it opens on the christening day.

  1. 01

    Add the christening date.

The card opens that morning and not before.

  2. 02

    Ask everyone with the link.

Each person writes once, in a browser, no account needed.

  3. 03

They read it after the service.

Each christening message has a name under it. They keep it.
