A Thankbox
alternative.

tbf is a group card where everybody can record a clip, and we cut the clips into one film for the day. Thankbox takes video on its Premium card and plays the board as a slideshow.

One card on each costs £4.99. Below is where they differ, from Thankbox's own pages.

The question

Each writer gets a question.

One at a time, about Sam. They answer in their own words, or write without one.

Who they are to you
  1. Something Sam did for you that you never mentioned.
  2. The day you were glad to have Sam there.
  3. A thing Sam said that stuck.
  4. Something that will not be the same after Sam.
  5. Something the next place should know about Sam.
  6. Something you learned from watching Sam.
  1. The moment you knew you had a proper friend in Sam.
  2. Something Sam did that only a friend would.
  3. A thing you still laugh about together.
  4. The time Sam turned up when it mattered.
  5. Something Sam knew about you before you said it.
  1. Something Sam did for the family that went unsaid.
  2. A habit of Sam's that you have caught yourself copying.
  3. A memory of Sam from when you were younger.
  4. Something Sam put up with from you.
  5. Something Sam taught you, mostly by example.
  1. A small thing Sam did that you noticed and never mentioned.
  2. The moment you knew.
  3. Something Sam did this year that made things easier for you.
  4. A thing about Sam you would not change.
  5. Something Sam carried that was yours to carry.
  1. The thing you go to Sam for.
  2. Something you picked up from working beside Sam.
  3. A bad day at work that Sam turned round.
  4. Something a new starter should be told about Sam.
  5. Something Sam did that made the job feel worth doing.

Or write without one.

Which one suits you

They are close on price. The difference is what the person opens.

  • Pick Thankbox

If you want a board of notes and photos that never expires, or a PDF to print. It has done that well since 2020.

  • Pick tbf

If you want to hear them. The people signing can say it to camera or just use their voice, and the film is ready on the day.

What the film is

Each person who signs can type a note, record up to 30 seconds, or both. On the day we cut every clip into one film, and typed notes go in as their own words.

It opens on the funniest clip. Then everybody at once, then each person in turn.

There is a 60 second version too, built from a short clip of each person who said yes to their clip being posted.

In the iPhone app the person can film themselves watching. That clip stays with them.

Making the card on tbf

The same three steps for a leaving do, a birthday or a thank you.

  1. 01

Pick a card and a day.

Choose the front and when it opens.

  2. 02

    Send one link round.

Everyone adds a message, a clip, or both.

  3. 03

They open it on the day.

Every note, then the film of everybody who wrote in.

Questions

What is a good alternative to Thankbox?

For a card with a film of everybody, tbf. For a board that never expires with a PDF, Thankbox is still the better fit.

Can you add video to a Thankbox?

Yes, on Premium at £8.99. The Classic card takes YouTube and TikTok links.

Is tbf cheaper than Thankbox?

One card is £4.99 on both. tbf gives one card a month free in the iPhone app.

Do people need an account to sign?

No, on either. Thankbox asks for an email only from people giving money.

Somebody has a day coming up.
