Birthday wishes for husband.
What to write.

The question

Each writer gets a question.

One at a time, about Sam. They answer in their own words, or write without one.

Who they are to you
  1. Something Sam did this year that you still think about.
  2. Words of Sam's that you have caught yourself using.
  3. A day Sam made better just by turning up.
  4. Something Sam taught you without meaning to.
  5. A small thing about Sam that nobody else would notice.
  6. The story about Sam you tell most.
  1. The moment you knew you had a proper friend in Sam.
  2. Something Sam did that only a friend would.
  3. A thing you still laugh about together.
  4. The time Sam turned up when it mattered.
  5. Something Sam knew about you before you said it.
  1. Something Sam did for the family that went unsaid.
  2. A habit of Sam's that you have caught yourself copying.
  3. A memory of Sam from when you were younger.
  4. Something Sam put up with from you.
  5. Something Sam taught you, mostly by example.
  1. A small thing Sam did that you noticed and never mentioned.
  2. The moment you knew.
  3. Something Sam did this year that made things easier for you.
  4. A thing about Sam you would not change.
  5. Something Sam carried that was yours to carry.
  1. The thing you go to Sam for.
  2. Something you picked up from working beside Sam.
  3. A bad day at work that Sam turned round.
  4. Something a new starter should be told about Sam.
  5. Something Sam did that made the job feel worth doing.

Or write without one.

Birthday messages for a husband

Pick your group, use his name, and sign.

From a wife

  • Happy birthday. You are still the person I would choose every time.

  • You make ordinary days better without trying. Happy birthday.

  • Here is to you, today of all days. Nobody deserves it more.

  • Happy birthday to the man who knows my coffee order and my worst moods, and stays anyway.

  • Older, and still the best thing in this house. Happy birthday.

From both of you, to him

  • Happy birthday from your two favourite people. We made your cake and only dropped it once.

  • Happy birthday, Dad. We love you more than you know, and slightly less than you love the remote control.

  • From the whole family: happy birthday. The decorations were the children's idea.

  • Happy birthday. The house is louder because of you, and we would not change a thing.

From friends

  • Happy birthday, mate. Another year of pretending to know what you are doing.

  • Many happy returns. Same time next year, same pub, same argument about the bill.

  • Happy birthday. You have aged like a fine something-or-other. We forget what.

  • Still here, still you. Happy birthday.

  • Happy birthday from all of us. Most of us signed this willingly.

Funny

  • Happy birthday. You are not old, you are a classic.

  • Another year wiser. Or so the theory goes. Happy birthday.

  • Happy birthday. The grey is distinguished. The rest of us are just jealous.

  • You have been getting away with it for years. Happy birthday.

Short

  • Happy birthday. You are loved.

  • Many happy returns.

  • Happy birthday to my favourite person.

  • Here is to you. Happy birthday.

  • Happy birthday. Enjoy every bit of it.

What to leave out

Do not list his qualities like a job reference. Pick one and mean it. Seven adjectives in a row say nothing.

Do not make the card about you. It is his birthday. A few words about what he means to you are enough.

Do not go vague at the end. 'Wishing you all the best' closes a business letter, not a husband's birthday card. Land on something specific.

Do not write what you would say in a speech. Cards are read in a quiet moment. Short and warm outlasts long and elaborate.

One card from everyone

Friends, family, and the people who know him. One link, and it opens on the morning.

  1. 01

    Add his birthday.

The card opens that morning and not before. Set the date when you start.

  2. 02

    Ask everyone to sign.

Send one link. Each person writes their message once, in a browser, no account needed.

  3. 03

    He reads it over breakfast.

His card, with a name under every wish. He keeps it.

Questions

What do you write in a birthday card for your husband?

His name, one specific thing about him, and a wish for the year. Specific beats warm every time.

What is a short birthday wish for a husband?

'Happy birthday. You are still my favourite.' Six words, and it is done. Short wishes land harder than long ones.

Can a group of friends send one birthday card to a husband?

Yes. On tbf, everyone signs the same card and it opens on his birthday. One link, many names, one card he keeps.

Somebody has a day coming up.
