Christian Christmas card.
What to write.

Write what the day means to you. A few words about the birth, a wish for peace, and their name. The card does not need to be long to be right.

The messages are sorted by who is signing and what they want to say.

The question

Each writer gets a question.

One at a time, about Sam. They answer in their own words, or write without one.

Who they are to you
  1. Something you saw Sam do to get here.
  2. The moment you knew Sam would manage it.
  3. Something Sam put up with on the way.
  4. A thing about Sam that made this no surprise.
  5. The part of this that was all Sam's own doing.
  6. Something you hope Sam will stop and enjoy.
  1. The moment you knew you had a proper friend in Sam.
  2. Something Sam did that only a friend would.
  3. A thing you still laugh about together.
  4. The time Sam turned up when it mattered.
  5. Something Sam knew about you before you said it.
  1. Something Sam did for the family that went unsaid.
  2. A habit of Sam's that you have caught yourself copying.
  3. A memory of Sam from when you were younger.
  4. Something Sam put up with from you.
  5. Something Sam taught you, mostly by example.
  1. A small thing Sam did that you noticed and never mentioned.
  2. The moment you knew.
  3. Something Sam did this year that made things easier for you.
  4. A thing about Sam you would not change.
  5. Something Sam carried that was yours to carry.
  1. The thing you go to Sam for.
  2. Something you picked up from working beside Sam.
  3. A bad day at work that Sam turned round.
  4. Something a new starter should be told about Sam.
  5. Something Sam did that made the job feel worth doing.

Or write without one.

Christian Christmas card messages

Pick one, use their name, and sign it.

From close family

  • Peace to you this Christmas, and all our love.

  • May the joy of this season be real in your home.

  • Christ is born. That is the whole good news, and we are glad to share it with you.

  • Wishing you a Christmas full of the things that last.

  • This family gives thanks for you. Happy Christmas.

From friends

  • Happy Christmas. May the light of this season reach you wherever the year left you.

  • Grateful for your friendship and for this time we get to mark together.

  • Wishing you peace, presence and a table full of people you love.

  • So glad we get another Christmas together.

  • Another year, another reason to be thankful. Merry Christmas.

With scripture in mind

  • For unto us a child is born. The best news, every single year.

  • Peace on earth starts close to home. Happy Christmas.

  • Good tidings of great joy. That still means you, specifically.

  • The Word became flesh and lived among us. That is what this day is.

  • Emmanuel. God with us. Merry Christmas.

For a hard year

  • This year was not easy. May Christmas be a rest from it, and the new year kinder.

  • The shepherds were out in the cold before the angels came. Thinking of you.

  • Praying the peace of this season finds you where you are.

  • Hard years still have Christmas in them. Glad you are here for this one.

Short

  • Peace and joy this Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas. He is born.

  • Blessed Christmas to you and yours.

  • Happy Christmas. Much love.

  • Glory to God and goodwill to you. Merry Christmas.

What to leave out

Get the verse right. If you quote Scripture and the words are off, they sit in the card for years. Paraphrase instead.

Two sentences is enough. Say what Christmas means to you, wish them well, and stop before it reads like a sermon they did not ask for.

Words about the birth work for people from different traditions. Write for the person, not for a theological position you want to defend.

Say Christmas. If the card is meant as a Christian one, use the word and mean it.

One card from everyone

One link, everyone signs it, and it opens on Christmas morning.

  1. 01

    Set Christmas morning.

The card opens that morning and not before. Set the date when you create it.

  2. 02

    Choose who to ask.

Family, friends, the congregation. Each person gets one link and writes once.

  3. 03

They read it on Christmas day.

Every message signed with a name. They keep it.

Questions

What makes a Christmas card message Christian?

It names the birth, not just the season. You do not need a verse. Saying Christ is born, or wishing them the peace of this day, is enough.

Should I include a Bible verse?

Only if it is one that matters to you and you can write it accurately. A verse from Luke 2 or Isaiah 9 is right if it is true for you.

Can people of different faiths sign a Christian Christmas card?

They can write a warm seasonal message without using Christian language. The card holds both, and nobody needs to match exactly.

Somebody has a day coming up.
