  4. The story about Sam you would tell at the table.
  5. Something you learned about being with somebody from watching Sam.
  6. Something you hope never changes about Sam.

What to leave out

Do not quote scripture unless it fits them personally. Filler is obvious. A verse pulled at random, with nothing to do with who they are as a couple, lands worse than nothing.

Do not write about God's plan for their marriage if you barely know them. That is the pastor's job. Keep it warm.

Christian is a wide word. If they come from different churches or traditions, bless the couple and leave the theology out of it entirely.

A few words and a blessing. That is enough. The homily was this morning and they do not need you to add to it.

One card from everyone

The whole group, one link, and it opens on the wedding morning.

  1. 01

    Set the wedding date.

The card opens that morning. Nobody reads it early.

  2. 02

Share the link with the group.

Family, friends, the whole congregation. Each person writes once, in a browser, from wherever they are.

  3. 03

They open it on the day.

Every message and every name, in one place. They keep it.

Questions

What is a good Bible verse for a wedding card?

Ruth and Ecclesiastes both have short verses that need no introduction. Pick one, then add a few words on why it made you think of them.

Do you say congratulations in a Christian wedding card?

Yes. Congratulations is warm and right. A blessing alongside it is good, but the word itself needs no apology.

What if I am not religious but they are?

Keep it simple. Wishing them every blessing is honest and warm without requiring you to believe what they believe.

Somebody has a day coming up.
