Engagement card.
Everyone signs it.

On tbf, an engagement card is one card the whole group signs. Share a link, everyone adds a message, and it opens on the day you choose.

A handful of engagement card messages below show the kind of thing people write. For more, the site links to a full wording page.

Each writer gets a question.

One at a time, about Sam. They answer in their own words, or write without one.

Who they are to you

  2. Something you noticed change in Sam for the better.
  3. A small thing you have seen them do for each other.
  4. The story about Sam you would tell at the table.
  5. Something you learned about being with somebody from watching Sam.
  6. Something you hope never changes about Sam.
  1. The moment you knew you had a proper friend in Sam.
  2. Something Sam did that only a friend would.
  3. A thing you still laugh about together.
  4. The time Sam turned up when it mattered.
  5. Something Sam knew about you before you said it.
  1. Something Sam did for the family that went unsaid.
  2. A habit of Sam's that you have caught yourself copying.
  3. A memory of Sam from when you were younger.
  4. Something Sam put up with from you.
  5. Something Sam taught you, mostly by example.
  1. A small thing Sam did that you noticed and never mentioned.
  2. The moment you knew.
  3. Something Sam did this year that made things easier for you.
  4. A thing about Sam you would not change.
  5. Something Sam carried that was yours to carry.
  1. The thing you go to Sam for.
  2. Something you picked up from working beside Sam.
  3. A bad day at work that Sam turned round.
  4. Something a new starter should be told about Sam.

Or write without one.

What people write

A few examples. For the full set, see what to write in an engagement card.

From friends

  • Congratulations on the engagement. The group chat is already planning the party.

  • So pleased for you both. You make a brilliant pair.

  • Congratulations. Very excited to watch this unfold.

From family

  • Congratulations, both of you. We could not be happier.

  • What wonderful news. So proud of you.

  • Congratulations. Welcome properly to the family.

Short

  • Congratulations on the engagement.

  • Wonderful news. So happy for you both.

  • Congratulations. You found each other.

Before you send it

Send it on the day they announce. Close to it works too, but an engagement card that arrives three weeks late needs an explanation.

A group card works best when one person rounds everyone up. Share the link in the group chat the day you hear the news.

If you are also buying a wedding card, keep this one short. There is more to say in June than there is today.

One card from everyone

Friends, family, the whole group chat. One link, and it opens when you say.

  1. 01

    Set the date.

Pick the day it opens. That morning, they get the card.

  2. 02

    Share the link.

Anyone with the link can sign. One browser, one message each.

  3. 03

    They read it together.

Every name and every congratulation. They keep it.

Questions

When should an engagement card arrive?

As soon as you hear the news, or within the week. It is a moment card, and moments pass.

Who signs a group engagement card?

Anyone who knows them. Friends, family, colleagues who have heard the story. The more names, the better it reads.

Can you send a group card if you do not know the partner well?

Yes. A short congratulations with both names is enough. You do not need to know them to be pleased for them.

Somebody has a day coming up.
