What to leave out

Do not mention exes, even as a joke. Someone's grandmother reads these cards.

Do not write about divorce statistics or how hard marriage is. They know. Today is not the day.

Do not write more than the couple will read. A short message signed with love beats a page of advice.

One card from the guests

Friends, family, the table at the back. One link, and it opens on the wedding day.

  1. 01

    Add the wedding date.

The card opens that morning and not before.

  2. 02

    Share one link.

On the tables or in the group chat. Each guest writes once, in a browser.

  3. 03

    They read it on honeymoon.

Every guest's message, signed with their name. They keep it.

Questions

What do you write in a wedding card?

Both names, congratulations, one good thing about them together, and a wish. Four parts, and the middle one makes it theirs.

What do you write if you do not know the couple well?

Keep it short and warm. Congratulations, both names, one wish. Nobody expects a speech from a plus one.

Is it okay to be funny in a wedding card?

Yes, if the joke is kind and small. The card is read aloud at the table, so write nothing you would not say there.

Should you mention the wedding day itself?

A mention is enough. The day is over by the time most cards are read, so wish them for the marriage, not the party.

Somebody has a day coming up.
